Myofascial Release

Caves of Sedona AZ I visited when learning Myofascial Release.

Myofascial Release is a hands-on therapy with no oil that targets the fascial system through sustained gentle touch for 3-5 minutes; combined with the sophisticated movement therapy called myofascial unwinding. This is because the goal is to rehydrate the fascia to create more space in your body’s cellular environment, taking pressure off of pain-sensitive structures to help create pain-free movement and function.  This can also involve releasing scar tissue from surgeries or injuries that may be contributing to pain and lack of proper movement.

Fascial Restriction

Fascia is an embryologic tissue that allows the body to keep its normal shape, and also allows the body to resist internal and external mechanical stresses. It is a tough connective tissue that spreads 3-dimensionally throughout the body from head to toe, functionally and without interruption.

It is the fascia that reorganizes along the lines of tension imposed upon the body. This can mean adding support to misalignment and contracting to protect the person from additional trauma (real or imagined). Over time the tightness spreads like a pull in a sweater or stocking, causing the body to lose flexibility and spontaneity of movement. Further setting the body up for more trauma, pain, and limitation of movement.

“Myofascial release helps remove the straitjacket of pressure caused by restricted fascia, eliminating symptoms such as stiffness, pain, headaches, spasm, and fibromyalgia, as well as restoring range of motion. Through its influence on the neuromuscular and skeletal systems, myofascial release creates the opportunity for patients to ‘learn’ new enhanced movement patterns.”
